Since its opening in 1958, this place has been one of the most important suppliers of traditional Mallorcan cuisine. In an ambience which combines rustic decor with cosiness, typical regional dishes are served. Guests must understand the dishes on offer for what they are. Food here is based on, as the menu reads, “typical Spanish meals”, including lamb liver with sofrito, potatoes, peppers and herbs, roasted veal tripe, pork loin with cabbage, roasted with sultanas and pine nuts, tongue with capers, seabass fillets with fennel and paella ciega (blind paella) made with noodles. The restaurant doesn’t stray far from Mediterrenean food, but also offers canneloni, fish soup, muscles and Meuniére sole, to name just a few examples. A hidden gem in the city centre, this restaurant’s popularity can be attributed to a unique figure in Balearic history – Head Chef Joan Olives i Mercadal – a man whose lifelong passion is fine food and excellent wine. Malvasia is different in the sense that there is no menu. Every day Joan comes to the diners’ tables to explain the daily specials, prepared by a professional team of chefs using fresh seasonal ingredients.
