SHOPPING: Street Markets Every Sunday in Binissalem a local municipal market is held. It was the first handicrafts market to be set up thanks to the initiative of the Mallorca Market Association. It is held in the village plaza, just in front of the church, where the vendors set up their stalls and try to sell their products. The artists themselves sell everything from dry flower arrangements to wrought iron candleholders, ceramics and paintings. Lluc Plaça dels Peregrins local market. This is an unusual market that is held daily in the porches of the Plaça dels Peregrins, with the Lluc monastery as the backdrop. Close by are the houses of ca s´Amitger, recently converted into a Centre of Studies and Interpretation of the natural environment, where it is possible to visit a permanent exhibition dealing about the environment. The local produce market has an excellent variety of products from the Balearic Islands which all carry the mark of quality control and denomination of origin. Spicy sausages, cheeses, liqueurs, wines, ceramics, fabric, etc. Valdemossa local market. This is organised by the Living Art Association and is a recent creation. It is held in Uruguay Street and extends as far as the gardens of Cartoixa. Here as well, it is the artists themselves who sell their work directly to the public, with no intermediaries. In contrast to other markets, this one is not noisy, the mystery of the cypress trees invites calm voices, as surely Chopin felt during his stay in this place. It is only held in the morning. Consell local market. This was the first flea market to be set up in Mallorca. Its promoter is John Douglas, an Australian who swapped his working life in London for the peace of Mallorca, who later set up the majority of flea markets that are currently held on the island. In the Consell building complex it is possible to find everything: furniture, military clothing, old photographic cameras, paintings… It is not to be missed, as there are 300 stands to get stuck into and have a good nose around. It is only held during the morning.
