ATTRACTIONS & ACTIVITIES: Parks & Gardens Puig de Galatzó Reserve
The Puig de Galatzó Reserve Park is found in the southeast of Mallorca in Puigpunyent, 17 km away from Palma. It has a surface area of 2.5 million square metres. Its construction was started in 1986, after being approved by the Island Council of Mallorca on the 3rd of August 1982 as a public utility and social interest. It was officially inaugurated on the 24th of October 1992. A well-signed path leads us through this natural space that is unique to Mallorca. Marítim Terrestre de l’Arxipèlag de Cabrera National Park
The Cabrera Archipelago is the finest example of scenery and nature that can be found on the Islets. It is found 10 km to the south of cabo Salinas in the southernmost point of Mallorca. It has 54 km of coastline and a surface area of 1,570 hectares. It is the first maritime-terrestrial national park, declared as such in 1991 and it represents a bastion in the conservation of the fragile Mediterranean island ecosystems. Separated from Mallorca some 125,000 years ago, it is the continuation of the Serra de Llevant. It is formed by a principal island, Cabrera – whish lies furthest to the south – with an area of 1,569 hectares, and by 18 islets. Some of these are: Ses Rates, Els Estells, L’Imperial, Les Bledes, El Fonoll, Na Rodona, Isla dels Conills, L’Esponja, Na Plana, Na Cobra, S’Illot Pla, S’Illot and Na Foradada. S´Albufera Park
Inside this park there is a small museum containing information about the plants and animals that can be found here, as well as a mock-up of the park. In the reception centre a brochure is given out – serving as a permit to visit – with a map, recommendations, routes and a selection of birds that are year-round inhabitants in this area. S´Albufera`s climate is somewhat more humid than the rest of Mallorca, with an average temperature of 16ºC and an annual rainfall level of between 600 and 700 mm, most of which falls in autumn. Declared a natural park in January of 1988, it is one of the most valuable ecosystems on the island and one of the most loved by ornithologists the world over. It occupies the coastal plains of a vast hydrographical basin and stretches to 1,320 hectares. Mondragó Park A tourist train joins this park with the nearest urban developments. There is an Information Centre with an exhibition on the different ecosystems of the park detailing their flora and fauna. Mondragó has a semi-arid climate with an average temperature of 16.9ºC and a rainfall of 450 mm. It also has a recreation area equipped with children’s games, tables and benches. It has been a Natural Park since 1992 and in 1995 the European Commission categorised it as a Zone of Special Protection for birds, which means that it is protected by European law. It extends to 785 hectares.
