SHOPPING: Street Markets On Sundays the famous “mercadillo”, dating from the 17th century, is held in Teror. This is the day when many people come from other parts of the island to have a stroll, drink a “pizco” – wine or rum… - enjoy a tasty snack of locally made chorizo – a typical spicy sausage – or to buy some sweet black pudding, bread made from eggs or cereal nougat. Pilar Nuevo Plaza plays host to a local market every Sunday morning in the historical centre of Vegueta where local handicrafts and cultural items are on sale. The local market of San Mateo is held every weekend where farm produce, such as vegetables, fruit, cheese and other products are sold.
