Barcelona MONTHLY EVENTS: NOVEMBER'08 Exhibition: Transnational Barcelona. Connected citizens From November 2008
The new communications and transport technologies, as well as the characteristics of the new migrating currents in the context of globalisation, have resulted in many immigrants finding themselves immersed in transnational practises in a much more intense way than at other historic moments. The exhibition’s objective is to show the impact on our city, to explore what is new with respect to other past periods and value up to what point it is necessary to question our way of understanding immigration and forms of incorporation into the city.

Beyond the subject matter, Afriques shows us a kaleidoscopic image of this continent; a playoff between voices and looks provided as much by Africans who have come to our home as by Europeans who have gone far beyond, returned, and explain to us what it is they saw. Their experiences aid us in establishing bonds with this world so different (or not?) from ours. Afriques takes place in two locations: the Catalunya Archaeology Museum (The Westerner’s perspective) and the Barcelona Ethnological Museum (Journey to the other shore).
